Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox
The Angels are in trouble. They are losing ground and the clock is ticking. Went 3-7 in 10 game home stand, stopped the bleeding yesterday after dropping 4 straight. The sweep by Tampa was real ugly outscored 37-14 in 4 games. But Boston is also hurting, lost 5 of last 7 and 9 of last 13, 4th in standing 8 games out of wild card. The good thing for the Sox is they have their top pitcher Clay Buchholtz 11-3 with 4.19 ERA. His numbers are much better since 5/27 with 2.19 ERA and 0.94 WHIP and Jered Weaver does not do well at Fenway, 6 starts with 7.16 ERA 32.2 inning pitched 26 earned runs. Still the Angels does have the better number and Weaver is on a bounce back on a career season. Let go with the low score.

Tim Lincecum going for the Giants. He is 6-13 with 5.45 ERA coming off a non quality loss to the Nationals at home. Home team is sending Joe Blanton. He is 8-11 with 4.96 ERA coming off a non quality loss at Pittsburgh. Pitching indicator today says Tim is in a spot to improve pitch deeper into today's game a likely quality game. Joe is also in a spot to improve, but may continue his non quality performance. However the difference in pitching indication does not mean Giants will take this game, but likelihood of improved scoring. The speculation is to go against the Total which is pushing  under and play the Over.

Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres
The Bucks coming off 19 inning game winner at St Louis before flying in to San Diego. Pittsburgh gave everything they got and didn't have a starter announced for awhile, it's Kevin Correia. But the question is how much does the Bucks have today? San Diego Padres starter Edinson Volquez is on a slump and laboring through inning. Yes, I think the Pirates will roll at Petco Park. Going with Pittsburgh.

Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee Brewers
Cole Hamels is on fire. The Phillies starter is coming off two shut out, not one, but two. Make it 3 quality starts in a row. His WHIP for last 3 starts is 0.84 with 0.72 ERA. Maintaining his current form will be something to see, but it sure has the making of monster finish this season. Milwaukee is looking for a bounce back from their right hand phenom Mike Fiers getting knocked out at Colorado in just 2 inning of work. Let's chalk it up to mile high fever getting to Mike his first non quality start since joining the rotation. Despite both teams trending Over with Philadelphia Over 36-25 away & Milwaukee 38-22 home this total is set at a low 7.5 Tony Randazzo calling behind the plate is Over 14-9. However both pitchers are absolute Under when the total is set at 7.5 and looks are they are poised to pitch a good game.

Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are going to send their big gun tonight with Jered Weaver. He is coming off a loss, a rare loss, after logging 9 straight games and the Angels had won 12 straight with Weaver on the mound. This is a bounce back spot and he will be tough to beat at home. On the other side is James Shields also in great mid season form. His game has been on the rise since 7/20. Both of these pitchers do not trend Under, but the nature of this match up, Weaver off a loss and Tampa's winning ways against the Angels I think will lead to a tight low scoring game.

Interesting game tonight with these two teams. The Rays are on 10 game road trip finished two, 3 game sweep at Minnesota & 1 out of 3 loss to the Mariners. They have their top guy on the mound today in David Price, but the bats need to come back against Dan Haren. Coming off a shut out offense should be motivated and Dan was rocked for 5 runs in little over 3 inning in his last start. Dan's had issues this season with non quality start.  He is in a spot to improve, but I don't expect any more than 6 inning.  Despite his last loss as a fat -228 road favorite he's turned in 3 quality starts before that winning 2 out of 3. Both winners came at home one against Texas and another against Tampa. The Rays David Price has been lights out lately with 0.86 WHIP in last 3 games. This game is going UNDER

It's the Amazing R.A. Dickey to the mound for the Mets visiting the Great American Ballpark. Coming off a complete game winner, his fourth complete game this season, going through strong stretches going deep last 3 starts giving up total of 3 runs. Dickey on top of Majors in wins, 6 games with 10K's or more and three of those with no walk. Mike Leake for the Reds coming off a quality ND 3-5 loss at Chicago and doesn't look good at home 1-4. However the play is against Dickey coming off a complete game. Looking to get few runs off Dickey tonight and maybe the pen. Mike Leake has been improving since the San Diego game 7/30 and he could post another quality for two in a row.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles
Josh Beckett 5-9 with 4.97 ERA will go for the Red Sox. He is coming off a bad game against Texas pitching 5 inning 8 runs 3 home runs losing 10-9 and complaining of back pain.  Josh has pitched 4 non quality starts in a row and only one quality start in July. He will be opposed by Wei-Yin Chen 10-7 with 3.79 ERA starting for the Orioles. Coming off a non quality loss against KC lasting 4.2  inning giving up 7 runs and 2 homers throwing 86 pitches. However Chen is the Orioles top money pitcher who has allowed 3 runs or less 5 games before the collapse. He is very likely to bounce back. I would venture Beckett improving as well, but the trend is against Josh Beckett and the Red Sox. Going with the home team Baltimore and Under 8.5 for this match up.

The White Sox are not exactly hitting all cylinders, but they did manage to take 2 out of 3 series at home and they hope to take advantage of the reeling Toronto team.  The Blue Jays are 3 out of last 10 just lost the Yankee series at home, but they did put up 10 runs knocked out Hughes in 4 innings. Salvaging the last game against the Yankees 10-7. Both of these teams are coming off a big scoring win. However today's starters will look to quiet the bats. Chicago's Jake Peavy is not having much luck logging wins, but hitting Under's on the road 3 Over to 8 Under and he will take the ball in a spot to improve. Carlos Villanueva is not trending Under, but he doesn't give up much at home 3.00 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. I expect his game right below that range today. Going with the UNDER

A game with teams going in opposite direction, Atlanta on the rise and New York falling. Similar situation for the starting pitcher with Ben Sheets rolling without his mid to high 90's fastball, still not giving runs and winning games. On the other side, Jon Niese 1-4 last 5 he's also dropped last 3 home starts and the Mets have done little to help. Neise in a spot to pitch better, but Sheets have been consistent with little measuring range. I would estimate with 7 hits 1 run 1 walk no strike out and he went through Phillies line up like butter it was a exceptional start and more likely his performance will decline rather than exceed. However there is little to expect from New York offense. As the pitchers are closer matched today than anticipated and Total remaining to stay low the play today is Over. Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers.
Going to the Ball Park at Arlington. Detroit Tigers were red hot, but ran into Yankees dropping their last two games. Still a force not to be taken lightly they look to take their heavy bats on this road trip. Colliding in Texas where double digit score is not that unusual. Today's starting pitchers Max Scherzer, 10-6 with 4.72 ERA, for Detroit and Scott Feldman, 6-6 with 4.52 ERA, Scott is pitching the better game coming into this match. Max is in a bounce back spot coming off a non quality win and back to back non quality start. Anomaly  in is last 10 starts he has logged 7 quality starts. Scott is coming off a quality win and rolling 3 quality start wins plus 1 relief appearance. He's showing excellent command walking 1 batter in last 3 games 22.2 inning of work. He's given up 1 home run in 5 starts. Though Max Scherzer is in a bounce back spot I feel Texas back home from a successful road trip will contain the Tigers and take this game.  At the same time this Total is extremely high for these two pitcher today. But not since facing Buchholz @Boston 7/30 will they face a formidable pitcher in CC Sabathia, 11-3 with 3.53 ERA, pitching 5-1 away from N.Y. the Yankees are 7-3.  Detroit will send Anibal Sanchez who is coming off a quality win against Cleveland. Sanchez has been quality since July 8th, he was with Miami then, pitched 4 quality games out of last 5. However I feel this spot, Sanchez off a quality game giving up no home run, and Sabathia off a 9 inning 10 K complete game, both respective games did not go Under, over & push, and today's total set below their last game at 8.5 is destined to go OVER.

Johnny Cueto going for the Reds, he's 14-5 over 146 inning of work 2.52 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, top money winner of all the Reds starters made twice as much as #2 Latos.. Milwaukee sending Michael Fiers, he's 5-4 with half the inning of Cueto at 72 inning. The old rookie is pitching nicely 1.88 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.  He maybe pitching beyond himself, but right now Fiers look better than Cueto.  Judging from Michael 's performance he could pitch better than his last start, 6 inning 8 hits 2 runs 6 K's no walk and 1 homer,  scary stuff. I'm sure Johnny Cueto's not scared he's had 2 non quality starts winning them both with 9 runs backing him up both times and his game is coming back he had 9 K's in the last non quality start. Washington Nationals at Houston Astros
Today we have Nationals visiting Minute Maid park in Houston. Going for the visitors is Edwin Jackson meeting for the second time since April 19th, he lost that match 4-11, coming off a non quality start loss to Philadelphia, but a 2-3 final 1 run loss giving up 3 and failing to get out of the 5th inning with 108 pitch count all 3 runs came on solo homers He does have couple of quality starts before that, but again 3 non quality starts precedes making.2 wins 3 losses in last 5. He's not the same since getting chased out in Colorado 6/28 leading to declining performance in July, but don't complain about bad July to Dallas Keuchel he didn't have one quality start and lost all 4 July games making his loss streak 5 in a row. Dallas got shelled too, in last 4 starts he gave up, 7, 5, 6 & 4, all, but one game going Over. The obvious choice here is Washington Nationals and Game Total Over 8.5, but do not rush into this pick. The public wager is on Washington 78% which qualifies this game to fade the public and game total Over on second look is inflated due to pitcher situation, Dallas did take the game Under after his implosion 7/21 @Arizona and Jackson coming off Under 8 in multi homer game is a situational Under on a rising Total after going Under a lower total, 8, in previous game. Both play goes against the grain and Pubic fade angle must hold 75 to 79% wager on Washington. There is also an underlying trend with Houston being +160 dog  coming off a game scoring less than 3 runs and their starter allowing more than 5 runs in previous start, the Astros are 7-4 & 3 Over to 8 Under since September 2009. On to the rubber match with veteran Freddy Garcia on the hill for N.Y. going against Mariners Hisashi Iwakuma.  The Yankees are a big home favorite and coming off a rare shut out, happened three times this season including yesterday, there is much anticipated rebound combined with offensive output. Seattle is not getting much credit though they are winners of 8 out of 9 and 14 of last 19 games, winning 4 out of last 5 series. Bull pen has been hot since June. Still the Yankees are 33-22 at home, 21-11 since May 22nd, second best home record in AL and they have historically dominated the Mariner in New York. Freddy Garcia coming off a quality start loss against Baltimore has back to back quality loss and 3 losses in a row. He looks to improve in this spot and extend his inning, but I'm not sure Iwakuma is going to decline that much. I don't think he'll surpass his last start, 8 inning 4 hit 1 run with13 K's, it doesn't mean he's going to get knocked out. Iwakuma seems to be getting stronger and he's confidence is growing. He is coming off a 6 inning shut out of the Angels on the road making his first August appearance at home.  Baltimore Orioles will go with Tommy Hunter, 4-6 with 5.68 ERA, 8 away starts 3 of them quality and his record is 1-4. In last start he was knocked out in 5 inning at Oakland giving up 5 runs and 2 home runs. Many are already backing Tampa, but Baltimore as the road dog is the play. He is coming off a non quality win at Chicago. Rockies will fill the spot with Alex White last big league start June 24 loss at Texas 2-4 going 2.2 inning so Colorado would like Alex to extend his inning and keep the ball down in the zone. If the public wager was just a little higher on St Louis Cardinals I would place this on fade the public play on Colorado, but it fails to fall into that category. Instead the play we will look at is the total Under 11. This lofty number has been set after these two teams crushed 10.5 total in first two games. Lance has been hit on the road, but with strong run support he keeps winning and 8-4 O/U away. I still like the Under because the Total is being set higher while the combined score for these two teams have declined from game 1 to game 2. Lance Lynn is in a bounce back spot and Alex White has performed at Coors. The runs may come maybe White will not factor in the results, but this one come up shy of 11 runs.

Jake faced Minnesota in his last start at home beating them in 6 inning of work 6 hits 2 runs 1 earned, but he did labor throwing 121 pitches, his third start in a row throwing more than 120 pitches. He has also been hit on the road recording 2 non quality losses prior to his home win. His road record is sub par 3-5 with White Sox going 4-6 which is not all his doing as he is pitching quality in majority of his road games. Minnesota Twins will send Scott Diamond who pitched a complete game shut out against the Indians and he is 6-1 at home. His ERA is 2.28 compared to 3.63 away winning average margin 4.5 runs. It looks like a live home dog,  However Diamond's home starts have been against losing teams except for Baltimore and O's pitcher that day, Tillman, was gone after the 1st inning Twins went on to win 7-19 and that was a non quality win for Diamond. Jake Peavy , who is extended, will not be easy to hit even for the hot bats of Minnesota. but the play is Under 8.5 following last nights quality performance by pitchers on both sides again meeting quality pitchers in same series. Washington has not been kind either. These two teams met twice and Washington took both series only Cole Hamels had any success against them, he's not pitching today. Philadelphia starter today is Cliff Lee 1-6 with little help from his team, Phillies 5-12,  he will try for only his second win of this season with over 118 innings of work. It will be a tall order considering the home starter will be Stephen Strasburg  11-4 and 3rd money pitcher in the rotation, just a tad below Zimmermann.  Stephen is coming off a strong quality win at N.Y. Mets striking out 11 in 7 inning. The Nationals are 8-2 in last 10. Cliff Lee is coming of a non quality ND, rare Phillies win and Philadelphia failing on current road trip. This is a match up that's going to be a preview of post season to come. The Rays sending David Price their top pitcher who is coming off a dominant win.  David has pitched into the 7 inning in last 7 starts, all of them quality games, 6 wins 1 ND loss. The most runs he gave up during that span was 3 run in one game, 2 runs twice, three games 1 run and he shut down Cleveland, just nasty.  For the home team A.J. Griffin with 6 starts he is 3-0 with 2.25 ERA and turning some heads. He was a sleeper taken in 13th round draft, but he moved quickly through Oakland's system His pitches are not lights out, but quality and he throws strikes in the low strike zone. He is using pretty good fastball, curve, slider and change. Also a stronge indication of good pitching is his outstanding strike to walk ratio, career number moving up in the minors was a strike out per inning to 2 walks in 9 inning. A.J. seems to love pitching in Oakland he's sporting a 0.98 WHIP.  Although their first meeting this season in Tampa netted 2 Over's and 1 Push this series in pitcher friendly Oakland the Total is pushed down to 6.5 and I expect the runs to come at a premium. Tampa playing 9 Under's out of last 10 and Oakland at home Under 32 to Over 18. This is a match up between #1 and #3 Under team in all of baseball.

Edinson Volquez of San Diego is looking a bit nasty lately. All July starts ended in 1 run difference with San Diego winning 3 losing 1, 3 of those games were quality starts he also got 3 no decisions and striking out tons of batters. He's already beaten the Reds at home, July 5th 2-1 win, going 7 innings in a pitchers duel against Latos. For Cincinnati that loss in San Diego must feel like a hundred years ago. They've lost only 6 games in July, only 1 series loss which last happened July 3 & 4th to L.A. on the road, but since last losing July 18th to Arizona the Reds strung 10 winners allowing more than 3 runs only twice in that span. This is going to be a better game than expected. I'd give the home team the edge, but Reds starter Mike Leake should be avoided at home. He is the only money losing pitcher in rotation, 4 quality starts out of 10 at home is not a good number, the Reds are 50/50 with Mike on the hill and that's not a good proposition given that Reds price is not cheap. However I will side with the Under with both pitcher in mid season form. The Reds are NL top Under team. San Diego is playing Over this season, but much of it contributed by the low Total they're receiving and runs they're giving up.  Edinson to keep it tight. San Diego is 4 Over to 2 Under on this road trip so far, but even at homer friendly Great American ball park today's pitchers to keep it Under.

Good morning players. We have taken another winner with Nationals downing the Brewers. Taking the game on the North side of Chicago. One of my favorite ball park the Wrigley Field.

St Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs
The Cardinals are rolling, creeping towards Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in NL Central. They have won 7 of last 10, their home stand was successful 6 wins out of 7 and sweeping the Cubs at home July 20 to 22nd. Now the rubber match with pitcher Adam Wainwright going for St Louis series win #3. Adam is coming off a quality start win against the Dodgers his third quality win in last 4 starts. They will look to take the Chicago series again this time in Chicago. However Paul Maholm will have a say in this game and this lefty has been pitching with authority. Yes the Cubs are lagging in NL Central and they may not reach the front runners, but money wise Chicago is rising much faster than St Louis. Let's take a look at St Louis in their previous road trip, July 13 to 18 six game through Cincinnati and Milwaukee, 1 win 4 losses failing to score more than 3 runs. How about the Cubs most recent home stand? July 13 to 19th six games facing Arizona and Miami taking 5 wins and 1 loss. Chicago is dangerous at home, 25-22 and in the black 56-43 Run line, Wainwright is in a spot to decline. Chicago to take the rubber match with their top winning pitcher Maholm.

Good Saturday to all. I know everybody has their thing to do on this mid summer weekend, but take 10 mininutes to hook up on this play.

Washington Nationals at Milwaukee Brewers
The Nationals with Jordan Zimmermann is a combination I would not go against right now. It's pretty much a public play taking the Nats over Randy Wolf and the Brew Crew. Milwaukee was such a strong home presence last season, but that's not the case today. Randy Wolf has completed back to back quality starts something he has failed to continue this season. There is an similar situation in early June when he was pitching 6+ innings and failed his third quality start sliding downwards to end June. Jordan Zimmermann has been solid on the road just quality games. Take this game on the RL giving -1.5 runs on the away favorites.

San Diego Padres at Miami Marlins
We have Kip Wells, 1-3 with 4.00 ERA, for the Pads against Carols Zambrano, 5-8 with 4.42 ERA, in a match which has been owned by San Diego. Both of these pitchers were hit hard in each of their last start. It's likely that both pitchers will not be regarded highly in today's match up so the Total has risen to 9 from 8.5, but both of these pitchers are in a spot to improve. I think it's going to stay Under the original 8.5, but will gladly take the 9 instead.

No gain no loss in yesterday's split, but LA Dodger went 12 inning final score 2-3 almost had another side and total sweep. Let's go with a AL game today.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles
James Shields, 8-6 with 4.39 ERA and the Rays are 12-8, away pitcher has turned his fortune in July. Since winning 1 out of 5 starts in June he has only 1 loss out of 4 starts in July. Tampa has taken the first 2 games the last one in crushing fashion, 10-1 chasing the starter Gonzalez in 2.2 innings, now they are in position to sweep Baltimore in Camden. Chris Tillman is the home pitcher on mound to stop the bleeding with 3 games in 15.2 innings of work going 2-1 he's had his good day and bad day, but unearned runs do stand out. On this day game I'm going to take the Orioles even with Shields winning ways his quality games are not consistent. I don't think he'll duplicate his last game. Baltimore to salvage this game after 3 straight losses. .

Coming off sides and total winner yesterday.

Los Angeles Dodgers at St Louis Cardinals
Aaron Harang going for the Dodgers and  Kyle Lohse two good pitchers on the mound. L.A. Dodgers made a trade with Miami and got Hanley Ramirez. The line up change has boosted the total to 9.5, over kill in my view, but let's look at the side with L.A. Dodgers they are Kyle Lohse nemesis as the Dodgers are to the Cardinals. L.A. is still 8-1 in last 9 match ups dating back to last season and yesterday was the first loss of this 10 game road trip.  Now Lohse has been pitching well at home the Cardinals are 7-2 with Lohse pitching at home and doesn't give up much runs, 2 or less in July, but he's giving up more hits then he did in June. He also give a HR after couple games without any HR's.  Aaron Harang may not mach record with Kyle, but he better on the road, 5-3 and his recent games have been outstanding last 3 games 19 innings of work 2.37 ERA and 0.84 WHIP matching better than Lohse. Going with visiting Dodgers as a pretty good size dog..

Washington Nats at New York Mets
This is a rematch of a game that took place in Washington Nationals Park just last week July 19th. R.A. Dickey against Gio Gonzalez will go at it again. The two All Star pitchers didn't exactly battle the first meet with 5-9 Mets taking the road win. Gio went out in 3.1 inning in a rare collapse worst of this season and Dickey looked shaky too. Remember Dickey when he was unhittable leading up to the All Star break? he's showing signs of being some what hittable, but he's in a bounce back spot. So is Gio and this maybe the pitchers duel game. Despite Dickey and Mets having O/U  11-9 they are O/U 4-6 at home. Gonzalez and the Nats are 50% proposition on the road to go Under, but I expect his best game today. Mets are 1-9 in last 10 match up. Taking the Under and the Nationals.

Los Angeles Dodgers at St Louis
The L.A. Blue is re-starting to roll. You have to know when this team was at full strength it racked up the best record in baseball. Meet the champions St Louis coming into this match with a sweep of Chicago at home. It was not just a ordinary sweep, but the Cardinals pitchers shut down the Cubs to 1 run in 3 game series. Today the Cards will give the ball to Joe Kelly with 7 starts his record is 1-2 and 2.75 ERA and really lacks innings to get a good picture, but he is tied for 5th in rookies with quality start. Visiting Dodgers will go with Chad Billingsley who has racked up 5 losses last win dating back to June 10th at Seattle. He does own 5-4 home record however his road games are 3-6. The drawback taking the Cards here is L.A. has beat them 7 in a row dating back to last season and Dodgers are scoring runs coming off a sweep of their own at NY Mets. I do like the Cards to have the home edge, but the take today is Over 9. St Louis is trending Under right now and 12 runs in single inning will likely not happen, but Billingsley is money going Over and he is coming off a Under which has followed with two 10 run games and one 9 run game. Kelly is less of a factor, but even with his quality starts he is doing some high wire act with runners on bases and one of these games he will get burned. He's getting hit and giving walks strike out ratio is not that good, but he's been holding on. Looking for runs tonight as the Total is 9 high as it's been for St Louis in last 10 games and is the highest in Dodgers game in last 10 games.

What do we like today? The answer is Winners! OK we're going with a American League game.

Seattle Mariners at Tampa Bay Rays
Mariners playing 6 game of their 7 game road trip winning 3 out of 4 in KC, losing the opener in Tampa heading to this game. Tampa lost the Boston series, split Cleveland series and winning yesterday. The Rays have won back to back. Today Alex Cobb, 4-6 with 4.92 ERA poor home pitcher, will take the start opposite Jason Vargas, 9-7 with 4.09 ERA coming off a quality start at KC, who have strung 4 quality starts. Although Tampa has owned Seattle winning the past 9 matches dating back to last season. I like Seattle as the road dog.

S.F. Giants at Atlanta Braves
The Braves were on a 7 game win streak when it was snapped by S.F. Now they've lost 2 in a row coming up last game of the Giants & Braves series. Can Tim Hudson and the Braves salvage the last game of this series?. Atlanta has stopped 2 games slide in last 3 times it's happened 3 games slide last happened 6/16, 17 and 18th. The last sweep Atlanta faced was the Yankees 6/11, 12 & 13th, the last NL team to sweep Atlanta was Washington 5/25, 26 & 27th. Hudson is a winning pitcher and Atlanta seems likely to take the last game at home before heading out on the road, but it should be noted that the Braves got swept both against the Yankees and the Nationals at home. Hudson is also a road pitcher with 3-3 record at home. The Giants are in uncharted territory with their longest win streak. They should like their chances with Madison Bumgarner 11-5 with the Giants 12-6 eating up innings. Still on the surface this game belongs to the Braves. Bumgarner is a home pitcher with 4-4 record away. However the angle is San Francisco. Staying on the Giants coming off a win scoring +5 runs and covering the RL against a winning team with a hot pitcher.

Going for the Padres is Edinson Volquez coming off a non quality win however his prior three games all quality winners. I think both pitcher have a quality gamr. They both are coming off a weak start which should improve, Volquez on a turn around and Harrell coming back against a team he performed well. Plus we are playing in a pitcher's ballpark.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies
We have Jeremy Guthries the Rockies veteran against Pittsburgh's James McDonald who is much better than average 9-3. 2.59 ERA, but more so than James it's Guthries at Coors Field. He's in a spot to improve yet his home losses 1-5, 9.23 ERA is a tough number to swallow. The Pirates still playing winning ball. McDonald despite his ND and Pittsburgh's loss in last start at Milwaukee he is in a spot to bounce back. He is a bit weaker on the road, but still formidable with recent games receiving plenty of run support. Take the Bucks as short road favorites. Sunday was a busy day. I was not ready to publish anything before deadline so I'm moving on to Monday.

Baltimore Orioles at Minnesota Twins
Baltimore sure is having hard time scoring. They did put up 8 runs July 14th against Detroit, but they've been shut out 3 out of last 5 games and 2 runs or less 4 out of last 5. The Orioles in Twin City will face the lefty Scott Diamond. 7-3 with 2.62 ERA in 79 innings of work, that's good pitching. The Twins are 5-1 at home with Scott starting and games are O/U 1-4. The Orioles really need to go to work Baltimore will go with Chris Tillman making his second start this year and his first was July 4th going 8.1 inning 2 hits 2 runs unearned at Seattle. You can't expect him to do better and the Orioles have little success with Tillman 20 career road starts the team record is 5-15. However before you jump on the Twins as home favorite don't forget this team got swept for the 7th time, by Oakland, and last time by Baltimore. The match up points to the Orioles even with Minnesota sending a good pitcher with extended quality games. I think if the pitching is on this game will go Under, but there's too much anticipation for the Under to happen, I don't like that. Regardless of the Total being set low it still begs to be taken. This game is going Over one or both of these pitchers will give it up big. Take the Over

L.A. Angels at N.Y. Yankees
These two teams are coming off a wild game where the lead changed 4 times. The Angels were 41-4 when leading after 7 inning so you don't see that everyday. But then again the Halos are 5-15 playing at New York so maybe it was surprising that the Angels were leading in late inning.
Today the visiting Angels hand the ball to Jerome Williams who's coming off 15 day DL with a record of 6-5 and 4.46 ERA. His game was on a 3 game skid prior to the DL and had little luck on the road. He will be opposed by N.Y.'s Freddy Garcia with 43 innings pitched, his short record is 3-2 with 5.23 ERA, but his career number against the Halos are 15-3. I would guess, despite the two journeyman pitchers on the mound, the Yankees will be a no brainer play for most or maybe the game total Over 10 with N.Y. on top of multiple offensive stats and L.A.'s batting .308 with 109 runs and 27 HR over the last 18 games. But I'm not going to trust the sides since L.A. is still 16-6 in last 22 road games and I'm going against the grain in game total going Over. Yes, either one of these pitcher is capable of imploding and Paul Schrieber behind the plate is O/U 13-5, but he doesn't see too many high Totals. Matter of fact Schriber has been behind the plate only once when the total was 10, the highest he's umped, and that went Under. Two prolific AL Under teams this season with Total set at 10, L.A. is #2 and N.Y. is #3 in Under's, while this game looks very much Over to most I'm going to look for this Total to move higher and taking the UNDER.  It's already O10.5 at BookMaker and O10 is -122 at 5Dimes. When two Under teams break the Over soundly and the following game of the series is set with an higher Total the play should be UNDER.

Detroit Tigers at  Baltimore Orioles
Second half of MLB Season under way. Detroit is winning games with 5 games in a row and 7 out of last 10. They're scoring runs too 4 runs or better 9 out of last 10. The current streak they have allowed 3 runs or less 4 out of last 5. It looks all good and Doug Fister takes the ball, that may not be all good. Doug won his last contest against KC in a non quality outing, but his wins are far and few in between. Besides the Tigers wins have come against basement dwellers KC and Minnesota as fat favorites. The Orioles have been on decline getting shut out by the Angels their last 2 games and have been sliding since mid June, but Jason Hammel is looking get things back on track. He faced the Angels ace Jered Weaver twice in last 3 starts, first one he was off getting shelled at home and then a quality game loss at home his last start. He also took a loss in Seattle in between, but even with 3 losses in a row I like his chances over Doug Fister. In the Baltimore rotation Hammel is the top money winner and gets good run support in majority of his starts. Despite O birds power outage in recent games Fister should entice the Baltimore to cash in some runs.

The Rays are on a slide. Their last 7 game home stand was below average 3-4 and their previous 9 game road trip was 3-6. During this span the Rays have failed to isolate losses and occassional wins with better than 1.5 run margin have been followed by 2 losses or more. Zach McAllister will start for the Tribe with 2 wins and 2 ND in last 4 all wins for Cleveland. Zach is limiting opposition to less than 3 runs in 5 out of 6 games which is the team record with Zack 5-1. Indians are swing their bats scoring 5 runs or more 7 out of last 10 games and James Shields, Tampa's starter, has been very hittable giving up 10 knocks to NYY in last start and 14 knocks to DET before that. He has allowed 7 knocks or more in 9 out of last 10 games. Needless to say his quality game has declined to few and far in between. Cleveland has always given Shields trouble, he is 1-5 with 3.93 ERA in 9 career starts. Going with Cleveland at home as small favorite to take the Tampa series 3-1.

It was apparent in the first game of this series the score is poised to rise. Billingsley absolutely OVER at 12-3 and Cahill's O/U 7-9 is turned around at home O/U 5-2. Kansas City Royals at Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays are scoring tons of runs in their home stand. Despite scoring 4+ runs in 6 out of 7 games they're record is 4-3 allowing 11, 10 & 9 runs in those losses. Toronto backers are looking for the Jays to string some solid wins as they take the Royals. The Jays dropped the first game big time 3-11 stunner with Romero getting rocked, but came back nicely winning 2 & 3rd game by 3 run margin. Now they can take the Kansas series today and have 3 games winning streak to get this going. As for Kansas City Royals, playing below .500 ball, to cooperate is another matter. The Royals play a bit better on the road and they will face Henderson Alvarez, the biggest money loser for the Jays rotation coming off a win with a quality start. He has not pitched back to back quality games in quite sometime and he's only had 2 quality starts in last 7. The Jays are 2-7 with Alvarez on the mound.
I know many don't like backing KC the Royals Luke Hochevar gave up 3 HR in his last start, 3rd multi HR game this season, but he was pitching no run games winning the previous 2 starts. Looking for Hochevar to bounce back to keep KC in this game. This play is a fade on Alvarez and Toronto.

Happy 4th to all the players out there. Get those grills out early we have day time games.
Coming off a roller coaster ride of a game snatching a win away from the grasps of Miami. Lucky win? perhaps, but as the saying goes I'll take it any way I can.

SF Giants at Washington Nationals
Madison Bumgarner is having a fine season, 10-4 with 2.85 ERA, and the Giants are 11-5 while Edwin Jackson, 4-4 with 3.57 ERA, has a team record of 5-10 they are the mirror opposite. Interestingly the line has crossed over also known as reverse line movement from Washington to San Francisco and remains fairly tight. This match up is the NL West number 1 against the NL East number 1 which should tell you it's going to be a good battle. I think many are looking for the Giants to knot up the series and maybe the Over too with both teams hitting double digits yesterday easily going Over 7.5, 5Dimes Total has been trending Over 7.5 at -115, the thunder storm will make this total a game time decision. However  the sides differs from what it seems on the surface. Madison Bumgarner is coming off a complete game 1 hitter it is likely that his game will decline a bit here. On the road his ERA rises to 3.72 in day games 3.46 and 4 of his 5 losses all happened on the road. Edwin Jackson is coming off his worst start this season in Colorado he should improve back on his home turf. Despite his record he's pitched quality games, 8 out of 10 with 1.05 WHIP, he's taking close losses.  But now Nationals are scoring runs, they scored 5+ runs last 7 straight games, making them balanced and Giants winning ways been through pitching lights out games at home. It's going to be tough to duplicate that magic here at Nationals Park. Going with Nationals as slight home dogs.

We are coming up to the All Star break hope you guys voted for the right player. I'm just kidding, this ain't no fantasy baseball, we're speculating zero sum game. While the baseball fans watch the Stars we'll be grinding games, analyzing angles and building our own private stats. So register with 5Dimes from this blog, fund your account and follow the Picks by email and your in like Flynn baby!

For me it's harder working with a sports fan because they have strong opinions and that makes it harder for them to pull the trigger. It's the "no way" syndrome. Many of these picks have the look of "no way" that's the style of play we employ.  Look around the Internet searching for sites pushing picks. If your going to buy a package you need to know the handicapper's style, maybe you don't mind heavy juiced favorites being a common menu item or other exotic picks, making the choice easier to swallow is important for your sanity.  Imagine not liking the pick or worse you like the other side and it ends up losing? I'm not saying you should buy any packages, but you should have a good long look before spending your money getting a adviser. Better yet try improving your own game.

Miami Marlins at Milwaukee Brewers
Anibal Sanchez is the guy to watch on the mound for visiting Miami. Both teams are middle of the pack  team with Brewers looking little better because Houston and Chicago share the Central division. Both teams have gone 5-5 last 10 games, but Miami is the one with the good pitcher Sanchez. He gives up few runs and pretty predictable on the hill. Enter Marco Estrada 0-3, but struck out 12 Reds in his return from DL. Marco is working his way up the ladder and may show improving game. Sanchez comes advertised, but I don't like him after a quality game. He's alternating and June was not a great month, he had two quality starts, but 3 loser. He doesn't win many of his quality starts and that may not be his fault, but losers never the less.

Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Indians
I think Indians are a dangerous team especially coming off 10 game road trip. Keep in mind the first game return home is a classic bounce back play. Cleveland true to this angle has won all first game back from a road trip 5 out of 5 times this season. The Indians took out Baltimore series 3 out of 4 to end their trip and now welcomes a hot LA Angels with their ace Jered Weaver getting the call. Jered cruised on his last start, which was his second start  since coming off the DL, and looked very much a All Star that he is. Ubaldo Jimenez starting for Cleveland is much improved in June.  He has kept the Indians in all of June games except for Pittsburgh on June 16th and his one other loss against NY Ynakees on June 27th was a 1 run loss making his June record 2-2. As unlikely as it would seem for Weaver to falter going into the All Star break it is more likely for Jimenez to perform keeping this game tight once again. Can't say Cleveland wins straight up, but Angels offensive production has been declining with last game against the Blue Jays netting 2 runs. If Jered is to keep the Indians bat off balance and LA Angels bats struggle against Jimenez the likely choice for this game is UNDER.
FYI, Weaver on the mound the Angels have 10-3 record, three losses comes against Texas, Minnesota and Cleveland.

Yes, Baltimore with Hammel on the mound is winning tons of games for the O birds, but Weaver is mowing them down and Angels line up is killing all pitchers.Going against the Under and O's situational Under dog play, that's what the book says to play, so I'm fading the fade.

Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore Orioles
You know these two teams have a very similar record, O's are 41-31 and Angels are 40-33, in East coast West coast match up. They took two different roads to get here with O's taking the high road playing strong games from April 13th to May 26 did not lose more than two games in a row and had one 4 games in a row & two 5 games in a row while isolating losses between wins or multiple wins. That surprised many people Then the longest loss 6 in a row happened May 26 to June 1 recovered with June 9 to June 14 five game winner and now after taking the Washington series at home will welcome the Angels. LA Angels took the low road losing multiple games with isolated wins from April to early May. LAA started to warm up from early May and hit a stride on May 22 to May 29 winning eight games in a row. Since then Angels have only 1 back to back loss and the rest are all isolated losses with multiple winners in between. The Angels are coming in hot. Their starter CJ Wilson is a 8 game winner have not lost since CWS May 17 in Anaheim stringing 6 quality start winners and the Angels are 7-2 when he starts on the road. You have to love this guy home or away is pitching solid baseball. Baltimore O's are sending Brian Matusz 5-8 and loser of last 3 starts. He has 1 quality starts out of 4 in June. He has struggled in last 3 starts failing to go beyond 5 innings, but he is a 50/50 proposition at home, 3-3 team record, and the wagering public are behind the Angels today, but you know what's better? Going with the UNDER. Both pitchers are extremely UNDER with Matusz 2-12 and Wilson 3-12 and I think the O's are going to put up a fight much tougher than expected.

Philadelphia the city of Brotherly Love. You know the Phillies were the gate keepers to NL East Championship holders of that title for 5 consecutive years, NL Champion 2008 & 2009 and 2008 World Champs. I say were because they're nowhere near what they were right now.
Philadelphia dropped two in a double header with Hammels and Lee, the big guns, they have not been effective in June, Lee can't win at all. Good thing coming into this game is both pitchers went pretty deep saving the pen and Joe Blanton who has also been eating innings has backed the Phillies winning 3 out of 4 June starts. June 14th at Minnesota he threw a gem, 9 innings 1 run win then he turned around on June 20th against Colorado giving up 5 with 3 HR's amazingly he got a ND with Phillies winning. The problem with Joe giving up multiple HR's, which is a telling sign of his sinker not working, the tendencies seems to linger as flat sinkers getting whacked has gone from May 14th for 8 games in a row. This spot will also feature the return of Jeff Karstens from DL , went 1 inning at Arizona on April 17th and he was done, who skipped the rehab game at the Minor level and coming straight into this game after throwing a good bullpen session. He maybe on a short leash, but even if he only throws 5 innings the Bucs pen looks good to go. Pirates have been on a surge all June looking very much a contender. Offense has responded well in June after a low scoring loss of 2 runs or less winning 3 out of 4 in such situations and also generating Over in all those games. Like the Pirates and like the Over.

LA Dodgers at SF Giants
LA in SF you know the chant will be "beat LA" One of my favorite stadium AT&T Park and what you need to know here is the freakish wind which is 23mph blowing out to the center and left field. In this condition this park has produced O/U record of 9-24. Barry Zito gets the call and he is on 3 game slide since Texas at home June 8th, got bit worse against Houston and blew up at LAA. He really can't do worse and I think he will improve. Dodger starter Nathan Eovaldi has been pitching well he's just been on the wrong side of low scoring 1 run losses. Let's look for him to take one in AT&T Park against Zito searching for his form. I expect the G-men to make this a game, but back to the senior circuit LA will not be denied.

MLB Friday

(41-30 +14,590)
The Baseball Gods likes my picks. Yesterday's win on Oakland was no walk in the park, Clayton Kershaw was pitching like a demon, but somehow Travis Blackley, a pitcher claimed off waivers, answered the bell. The A's game was stronger and when the dust cleared Yoenis Cespedes 3 run home run off reliever Josh Lindblom for the daggers. 3 game sweep of reeling Dodgers 2-12 in inter league against Oakland.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels
Back to the Freeway series in SoCal and it's going to be perfect baseball condition tonight. There's going to be some cloud coverage with very little wind with humidity and game time will be pleasant mid 60's degree range. It should be a packed night at Anaheim on a Friday night, schools just got out for summer, and there will be Dodgers fan in big number. It's feeling like summer now and like the games from the past dramas will unfold with new faces and new names, but the game will remain the same.
The Dodgers are on a slump. This skid come on LA alternating wins and losses until they failed to grind out anything in Oakland. Their road trip has been tough so far and it will not get any easier with surging Angels, who are shadowing the division leading Rangers, hosting tonight's game. Dan Haren going to the hill for the Angels is one of the original big three, (Weaver, Wilson and Haren) expected to perform in dominant fashion taking the Halos to the promised land. Haren is not quite there yet and lagging behind his peers. Matter of fact the Angels with Haren is 4-10 bleeding red and 1-7 at home hardly a member of the big three. He has yet to pitch a quality game in June. The Dodgers will counter will Chad Billingsley who is coming off a loss to the White Sox at home, but he has been much better on the road in June giving up 1 run in each of two road starts. Dodgers made costly mistakes in yesterday's loss which should reflect better defense for this series. Billingsley also in spot to improve. Looking for Haren's  home woes to continue and the Dodgers to steal one from their cross town rivals.

Dodgers let me down in my last play. On the hunt for under the radar game.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Oakland A's
Clayton Kershaw 5-3, the star for the Dodgers take the mound. He's not as brilliant as he was in April, had couple of games giving up 5 runs in May, but also threw a shutout too. Coming into to June he has been diagnosed with  plantar fasciitis and though the Dodgers have won all three of Kershaw's June starts he's only logged 1 win and 2 ND's which is not much concern to L.A. backers who's ridden Kershaw's start to 10-4 record. So the Dodgers are 5-1 on Kershaw's ND's for combined 71.4% that's fantastic record, but it tells me he didn't do it alone. L.A. was playing good ball and they are still the team to beat here, but stepping up covering for star players on DL is starting to catch up. The Dodgers are lacking offense and Oakland A's are playing their best baseball this season. Looking for Blackley to improve his game against the slumping Dodgers offense. Usually in a case of hot team against a hot pitcher I like the pitcher to chill out the bats, but the hot pitcher today is warm with Dodgers less than 100%

Los Angeles Dodgers at Oakland A's
The A's get their best pitcher on the hill, Brandon McCarthy, Oakland is 7-4 and his most recent 7 games are 6-1 with 6 quality starts. The A's are giving him run support too as June game winners have both been by 6 runs. The bull pen is pitching better and Oakland is 5-1 last 6. The line is moving against L.A. Dodgers and Harang, but the Dodgers are no Padres or Colorado, L.A. is 18-13 away. Not exactly in their top winning form, but still coming off a impressive series win against the White Sox. Aaron Harang on the hill with the Dodgers 8-5. He has been tough in June starts pitching 19 inning giving up 4 ER's Dodgers winning all 3 games including the lone win against the Angels in the Freeway series. Taking the Dodgers tonight with Brandon not on his regular 5 days.

Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox
Everybody loves the White Sox today. Why not? they're home from the West licking their wound from multiple chances they missed, Peavy's outstanding game at St Louis, giving up their lead in Los Angeles, but the weakening signs came well ahead of that road trip when they dropped Toronto then Houston series at home. If you think about it they could of lost 5 out of 6 instead of 4 out of 6. The fact is The White Sox since going 14 wins out of 16 from 5/17 to 6/3, have a record of 4-8. The South side backers don't seem too worried though they're looking to get better on the Cubs. North siders are the worst in baseball and 8-25 on the road, 1 game worse than 9-25 Houston, and on many handicappers auto fade list. That's all true, but this particular game with Matt Garza in a hunt of that elusive win who has been pitching solid baseball in June. Zack Stewart making a spot start should make this game interesting as his ERA has been growing and extended innings are yielding runs. Chicago Cubs have won the first game of series 4 out of last 6 series. This game is also fits the "75%-79%" fade the public play. Remember sheep get slaughtered.

Ah one of my favorite day of the week for baseball. Got tons of good stuff today, but I'm only giving one.

Boston Red Sox at Chicago Cubs
The Red Sox before this road trip was a team in decline dropping 5 out of 6 in their home stand. During that slide they allowed over 4 runs 4 times and scored over 4 runs twice. Now on the road Boston has taken 3 out of 5 in route to taking their second series in a row and getting back to .500, that has been the story line for sometime, struggling to keep pace with AL East contenders losing money for their backers. However Chicago Cubs only glimmer of success was the home sweep against San Diego, and  Dempster who's not on today. That sweep stopped their 12 game losing skid, but the losses resumed after SDP 2-8 away. 2-5 in current home stand in danger of dropping the second home series adding to their miserable road trip. 1 run losses on previous game against series opponent has especially unkind to the cubs. Cubs will send Paul Maholm who was successful against the Tigers at home in his last try. It was his best performance since blanking Atlanta for 7 innings back on May 9th. I don't think he'll perform as well today and Boston's Franklin Morales making a spot start looks very capable of stretching his innings. Boston back to .500 today.

Philadephia Phillies at Toronto Blue Jays
Cliff Lee is definitely in the running for the top performing losing pitcher. Chicago's Ryan Dempster turned it around in June and Washington's Jordan Jimmermann gives the Nationals winning record, but Cliff Lee has 1.05 WHIP with over 70 innings of work. 7 out of his 10 starts have been quality and the results have been squat. Phillies have only 3 wins to show for 10 games capped by Lee's last start at Baltimore blowing 4-1 lead in a gut wrenching moose job for the Phillies backers, they paid -140 for the added pain. Now 5 days later another game on the road, don't forget Jason Hammel for the O's was not the caliber of Lee yet a winning pitcher, Lee will face Ricky Romero, Toronto's top winning pitcher, again not the caliber of Lee. Romero sporting 1.32 WHIP which has been on the rise with most recent 7 starts it's 1.59 WHIP and his games have gone Over 10 out 12 games 1 push. This madness is over due for an end. 17 game winner from last season pitching as he has and Phillies offense, aside from last night, scored better than 4 runs in 6 of their last 7 games. This road game seems ripe for Lee and the Phillies to knot it up in Toronto giving the battle tested warrior his well deserved win and a shut out revenge. At least that scenario would read like a made for TV drama, but I think you follow a trend. Not  Lee and Phillies losing games against inferior winning pitchers, but also the timing of these losses in majority was a loss of momentum in previous game. The loss carry over has plagued Philadelphia meaning isolated loss are few and far between. In the last 20 games there have been two games when Phillies were able to go W-L-W and have yet to stop a single loss so far in June. Toronto on the other hand .594 after a win currently 5 wins 5 losses in last 10 much better than 3 wins 7 losses in last 10 for Philadelphia;p. I do think Lee will improve from his last appearance to have a quality game, but it may not be enough again. Romero also likely to improve and this may even buck the OVER trend with a low Total number in AL ball park.. I'm still waiting on line improvement, but definitely looking to take  the Blue Jays.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Angels
Dan Haren takes the ball tonight. With Jered Weaver on DL Angels are counting on guys like Wilson and Haren to dominate their start. Haren winning 3 of last 4, shutting out Seattle on 4 hits and going 7 innings 1 run against the Yankees, are among the last 4. The Angels are back at the Big A after 5-1 road trip including the 2-1 series win against the cross town Dodgers, beating the toughest home team in baseball. Arizona dropped the first series of their road trip in Texas, but the second game of the series 1-0 loss looms large in their failure to capture that series. The Diamondbacks .500 on the road and coming off a good home stand Cahill despite 6-6 team record is 5-2 away while Haren is 1-4 at home with the Halos 1-6. What the Rattlers have excelled on the road and continue to build up is the RL win away 22-10 and the Angels are very poor covering RL  13-17.  Let's see the D-Backs have what it takes to take on another AL West contender.

Chicago White Sox at St Louis Cardinals
No I can't enough of this series and I'm still not sold on the Red Birds to take the final game. We have two rocky pitchers on the mound with Floyd for the White Sox and Westbrook for the Cards. Both pitchers looking to find their earlier form and I'm giving the road team to add to the Cardinals misery, losers of 12 out of last 19 games and 9 out of last 14 slide. The White sox taking 8 out of 9 road games and they are the best road team 18-10. Last night's 1 run shutout win by the Cards was a testament to Lynn's fine pitching and today should be a competitive game, but it is the Cardinals team that's reeling.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX +115(L)

Second game.

San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners
The Padres sending Volquez to the mound in Seattle for the 3rd game having locked the series San Diego will look for a possiable sweep. Edinson Volquez 2-6 and Padres are 4-9, he is going through a rough patch recording 4 losses out of last 5 the lone ND was also lost by San Diego. However 3 of the last 5 games he simply received little support. Matter of fact going back all 13 games the 5 runs he got in his last start was the most run support he received, 4 run once. 3 run twice and the rest are less than 3 runs. Seattle sending the new kid Erasmo Ramirez who was hot in Tacoma. Getting the call up on a game where opponent does not hit could be a good thing. The very nature of how they've matched up dictates the UNDER 7.5, right now at -130, but both of these teams looking UNDER are going Over at pretty good clip, SDP 8 Over out of last 10 and SEA 7 Over out of last 10. The low scoring tendencies are getting bucked and the total runs are bit under estimated. We will also have a tight strike zone today with Paul Emmel behind the plate with 90% Over rate O/U 10-1. Buck the UNDER one more time.

Early morning hours. Thought I put this one up before hitting the sack.

Chicago White Sox at St Louis Cardinals
For those who watched last night's game between these two teams, how many hits did the Cards have in the first 5 innings? 10 hits and cashed in 1, would you say that's frustrating. Especially when Wainwright was on his game, 7 innings 5 hits 2 runs and striking out 7, going deep? Then the bull pen gives up 4 runs to put it out of striking distance. How is that for St Louis decline? Lynn will take the ball for the Red Birds, he's 9-2 with Card 9-3, winning both home and away coming off a 14-2 win at Houston fanning 11 Astros walking only 2. He's the man holding opponents to 2.66 ERA and stingy 1.14 WHIP, but we have another stud opposing him in Jake Peavy, 6-2 with White Sox 9-3, also a winner at home and away, 1.75 ERA away and 0.97 WHIP. Like I said yesterday Chicago's win streak was sparked on the road. I am staying on Chicago as a small dog. The line has improved over the course and taking it

Chicago White Sox at Saint Louis Cardinals
Cardinals are looking for some edge tonight as the White Sox makes changes to their line up and sitting Dayan Viciedo playing Adam Dunn in left field. The Red Birds will face Jose Quintana in a spot start so Chicago White Sox maybe little off balance. The Cardinals returned from their 10 game road trip to lose their home stand against Cleveland and showed little scoring production. Adam Wainwright did get a win, but he is not pitching well in June. Regardless of Chicago's line up today Wainwright needs to contain the White Sox which is easier said than done. Chicago is very good on the road, their win streaks have been sparked on the road 4 times. St Louis has dropped two home series and 4 out of last 5 series.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Los Angeles Dodgers of L.A.
Freeway series about to start. Both teams surging with Dodgers completing 10 game road trip victorious 7-3 and Angels sweeping Colorado with hot bats blasting 28 runs in 3 games.  The Angels bats have been heating up before Colorado as they put up 18 runs in the Mariners series and Halos middle of line up is knocking out pitchers. There is no doubt the Angels are a force in AL West, but the Dodgers are the team to beat at top of baseball win percentage 39-22 toughest at home 21-9 and Angels pitching has been on the decline since the start of their power surge. Angels will start Garrett Richards their top prospect who performed well in his last start, 7 innings 4 hits 1 run against the Mariners, he was 12-2 minor major combined last season and the Angels have plans for him in the rotation.  Today I don't expect Richards to repeat or excel, but regress and I expect Chris Capuano to improve back in Dodgers stadium. The Dodgers have been under estimated for quite sometime as they are today. Richards might be good, but he's no Weaver. Go with the Dodgers this line has come down.

Texas Rangers at San Francisco Giants
Inter-league games are back. To be honest I don't like the inter-league games with limited variances to work with, but you adjust to the game and fundamental handicapping is favorable over technical handicapping right now. That's my opinion, although I am a believer in numbers theory, in this game.

Texas is favored by the public. The Rangers are the top team in AL West and maybe even the team that elevates to the promise land. Matt Harriston, left hand pitcher 7-3 record with 4.37 ERA, is a work horse  away from Arlington. He has faltered only once on the road, 5/02 Toronto, and along with Darvish provides the Rangers one two punch. Top ranked offense Texas combined with Harriston on the mound will be a formidable visitor for the 21st ranked offense S.F. Giants. If that's the thinking you guess the G-Men are the rightful home dog about to do down, but I see cracks in that offensive armor Texas has lost 3 series in a row since sweeping Toronto at home. Their lead has quietly diminished while the Giants have been on the rise. The G-Men carry four money pitchers, Barry Zito included, and their bats are hot. Zito on the mound the Giants are 7-4 and he is undefeated at home 3-0 with 2.59 ERA & 1.15 WHIP, Giants 4-1,  taking the Giants to add to the Rangers slump.

Getting crapped on last two games both 1 run games. Just a kind of games that makes me crazy mad.
Be assured there will be no emotional wagers here. The game lines have long been out and we have eye balls tracking them like hawks. Losses or wins we keep playing the game....shall we dance?

Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox
The battle of AL East continues with the O's and Red Sox at Fenway.  How many Beantowners would say they know their Red Sox would climb out of their mediocrity and continue their way toward the top of East. It was Josh Beckett on the mound when Boston reached .500 back on May 26th.  Remember that game with Red Sox knocking in 2 at the bottom of the 9th Jarrod Saltalamacchia walk off win? The last game Beckett pitched May 31 against Detroit the Red Sox was 3 above .500, but he lost that one. Now Beckett's turn again Boston is 1 game above .500 and everything seems to go in circle doesn't it? The Red Sox are still fighting to get off the AL East basement and Baltimore is making things difficult. Josh Beckett maybe eating innings, but he's not putting away winning teams. The O's have been underestimated all season so when they went on 6 games losing streak it was "I told you so" all around, but they snapped that streak couple of games ago and the O's are poised to take this series. Chen may not strike fear to the batters and he might not even go deep on the road, but O's are winning 60% across the board with Chen starting. He is also in a spot to improve fron 5 hit 5 run loss suffered on June 1st. Baltimore to take this game in Boston

Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants
The Giants have one fine pitcher going up on the mound, Ryan Volgelsong 3 wins 2 losses and the Giants are 6-3, second in money won with 8 quality starts out of 9 all 5 quality starts at home. The problem is no run support. Opponents are beating SF in low scoring games with Volgelsong on the mound. I suppose the Cubs 6-20 on the road is not much to fear, but when Jeff Samardzija goes to work the Cubs are 7-3. This being a 4 game sweep situation I will have to take the Cubs to salvage one. Milwaukee almost swept the 4 game series, but the Cubs beat Zack Greinke and the Brew crew to salvage that series. Besides it's not like the Giants are blowing Chicago out of the water. The Cubs looking to break their 10 game road loss against one of the Giants best pitcher. Maybe the RL is what should be played, but taking the ML for a little extra value.

Kansas City Royals at Cleveland Indians
KC and the Tribe are going for the rubber match. The Royals will send Bruce Chen and Cleveland will go with Jeanmar Gomez. The Indians are fighting at top of AL Central with the White Sox and this is where the schedule advantage falls on Cleveland or at least that's how it looks, but it didn't work out yesterday. Chicago South siders took out Shields and Tampa while Cleveland failed to keep pace losing to KC. Surely  Cleveland will secure the series? after all the Indians have been strong against division foes and Jeanmar Gomez, despite his unassuming 3.94 ERA & 3-3 record, the Indians are 5-3 making Gomez the top money pitcher. Chen on the other side 4.81 ERA 3-5 and opposite to Gomez is the biggest money losing pitcher with KC going 3-7 even worse on the road at 1-4.
Still something about the Indians at Progressive field facing KC Royals brings back to memory the momentum shift for the Royals. You know when they finally halted their long skid losing all them games at home, 12 to be exact 10 of them at home, when they finally won it happened at Cleveland and KC won that series taking game 2 & 3. It was around that time in  late April entering May when KC started to win games. Matter of fact Chen's 3 wins all happened in May. Unlikely as it maybe KC are poised to steal this series again. Cleveland showing slight weakness toward left hand pitching as Chen will likely improve from his last outing. Gomez also in a spot to improve, but his base on ball number has been on the rise in May.

Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers
Second game of this series with both teams calling up their respective starters. Michael Fiers for the Brew and Nathan Eovaldi for L.A. Both filling in because of injuries and predictability on their performance is very limited. What everyone does know is that Milwaukee is awful on the road and L.A. dominates at home. No one expects Dodgers to drop another after a close loss especially with Kemp coming back.. However there is another interesting angle to this game, the 75/80 rule, which is simply to play against a team getting 75% to 79% of public wager.

San Diego Padres at New York Mets
Mets on the road have accumulated O/U 18-6 78% Over an amazing rate. However total runs have been declining over the course of Pittsburgh series. Now Mets are back home, where O/U is 8-11, hosting another low scoring ball club the Padres. The starting pitchers are Eric Stults for San Diego, 2 starts both quality, both UNDER. Mets starter is Jeremy Hefner. He is the option for Miguel Batista who was the option to Mike Pelfrey so Jeremy is the third option who will try to show case his stuff while Chris Young rehabs. This should be a good spot with low scoring Pads and I think he's good for 5 innings. Stults will also catch Mets struggling to score. I think it's good for the UNDER
As for this game Stults is superior in my opinion, though he may not make the decision, but more importantly Mets are in a position to give one back even fresh off the series win, the games were not dominant in any of their win. The take is to go against the Mets.
